In the Caribbean, the Dominican
Republic is the leader in establishing Industrial
Free Zones, which operate under the protection
of a law intended to provide them multiple
benefits, such as extension of a 100% allowance
on capital gain, building taxes, municipal
taxes, patents and transfer of industrial
products, as well as consular fees and others.
The law foresees that Free
Zones may be industrial or services. They
can be of benefit to:
a) Companies operating
free zones, being individual or persona
ficta, whose main activity is that of acquiring
and/or renting lands, developing their infrastructure
to sell or rent buildings, facilities or
services to the companies whether established
or to be established.
b) Free zones companies,
both individual and persona ficta, having
obtained a setting up permit to carry out
industrial activities or services intended
to exportation.
c) Investors in free zone,
whether individual or persona ficta, investing
and financing capital, or titles and values
of an operator and/or a free zone company.
